In the past few years, Brasov has attracted significant foreign investment. INA Schaeffler, a German company making sub-assemblies for the automotive industry opened a ball bearing factory. The first 17500sqm factory was built under a €50 million investment and later in 2007, when the plant will be fully operational with a factory area totaling 52,000 sqm, the investment will reach €180 million.

Swedish company Autoliv, Germany's Reinert, Hungarian-based Klitehnima and German group Stabilus have announced the construction of plants in Brasov, with the projected investments exceeding 80 million.  Metallic construction company Canam Steel (Canada), pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline and Kraft Foods have also invested in the city.

In 2006 it was announced that a new airport will be built outside Brasov in the Ghimbav region. The investment is estimated at €85 million and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009. A Canadian company, Intelcan Technosystems will operate the airport, which will have a capacity for one million passengers. The location of the airport was chosen due to the growing level of inward investment and business in the region of Brasov.
